Our Sidereal World: Selena and Lilith is an astrology-inspired literary fantasy of souls and free will — mythopoetic, philosophical, atmospheric. Two sisters stand at the heart of it: Selena, the White Moon, and Lilith, the Black Moon, light and shadow, holding the balance scales of the world between them. An amnesiac heroine; a found family gathered on the road; a dark fairy tale told in an adult epic key. For readers who loved the symbolic mystery of Piranesi and the lyrical mythmaking of The Spear Cuts Through Water.
The story
The story
The dearest hand Selena ever knew was the hand that held the axe above her neck. It belonged to her sister.
Once Selena, the White Moon, was the Priestess who guarded the world’s souls. When the dark massed at the world’s rim, she made her move: she chose her Sun — the man who would rule and hold back the night. The plot was betrayed before it could bloom, and a withering curse fell on her instead, stealing her face, her memory, her name. She became a frail human, bound fast to the world by the affections of her unremembering heart. By the time she wakes, the lost years have done their work: the world has been emptied of its souls. She is herself again but knows nothing of the charge she is here to bear.
Yet something in her keeps the shape of what was taken, and she walks toward it. Toward the past. Toward Lilith — the Black Moon, the sister who raised the axe and now wears a borrowed life at the heart of a stolen court. Toward the truth Lilith carries: death is coming, for the world entire. And toward the price Lilith sets: to become again the goddess she was, Selena must forsake the child her unremembering heart had come to love.
Selena calls upon the stars — and finds them walking the world. They have the power she lacks to avert the end of days, and they are eager to help.
Selena must remember: the stars should not be trusted.
An atmospheric, astrology-inspired fantasy of memory, sisterhood broken and sought again, and the perilous road to one’s true self — for readers who loved the symbolic mystery of Piranesi and the lyrical mythmaking of The Spear Cuts Through Water.
